Local Transit Problem prt. 5

Teens are over four times more likely to get into a car accident than older drivers,

and car accidents are the leading cause of death among teens ages 15 to 20. The

increase in teen drivers are several facts in which major streets like Airport Blvd.

and Cottage Hill are having congestion and accidents. The lack of cameras that

keep people from the rage that allow for increased traffic and hazard. The city

hasn't really done much to alleviate this problem. We are getting more like those

big cities with traffic backup for miles. To be fair though teen drivers are

dangerous regardless of where they drive whether it be rural, suburban, or urban

environment, but the more traffic does not help the situation. I believe if certain

areas were to create walking, jogging, and biking paths more young people,

especially college students would actually get around on foot and bikes more

Local Transit problem prt. 4

One positive thing the city has done is to create a roundabout at Grelot and

Dawes Roads where traffic can flow freely by eliminating traffic lights at major

intersections. This is something that European cities have had for years and

while the concept might scare or confuse Americans the system has proven to

work and drivers would eventually adapt to it. The downside to this system is it

does not allow traffic to flow as quickly or as simple as overpasses do, but cost

less than building overpasses. For roundabouts might be cheaper but still rely on

vehicles to slow down and will cause confusion in some motorist along with being

able to find enough legal right away space to build them on.

Local Transit Problem prt. 3

An lrt would naturally have its own right of way, give local residents more

freedom and choice when it comes to moving around, eliminate that much more

vehicle traffic off of the highway, create more foot traffic, cut down on pollution,

and save many people on gas.. The city could romance one of the big three

automakers to produce the cars and open up jobs for drivers and maintenence

workers. Which ever plan the city wants to go with would be an improvement on

the transit issue and help the economy in the long run.

Another example of traffic that resembles a parking lot...

Local Transit Problem prt. 2

A transit issue will not only cause businesses to lose money but can cause

businesses to move in or even keep prospective home buyers from settling in. I

believe investment in a cities transit is worth every dollar because in the long run

more dollars will be made than spent. I believe that the city needs to either build

an east/west freeway or turn one or two of the busiest  thoroughfares into a

"parkway" type of highway where service drives connect to the businesses while

the main part of the highway allows traffic to flow easier by the way of

overpasses or develop an lrt(light rail transit) system to connect the airport to

downtown.

Here is a simulation of what a light rail train(lrt) might look like and function.

Local Transit Problem

The city I live right outside of has a bad transit issue and has the worst traffic I
have seen compared to other cities that I've lived in or been in. The city lacks a
proper expressway system along with a city transit system for its size and causes
many of the main thoroughfares look like parking lots throughout much of the
day. This kind of traffic nightmare keeps people out of many parts of the city if
they do not have to be there which causes local businesses to lose money and
areas to grow. Transit is the lifeline of communities and act as proverbial arteries
that carry the life blood of that community and if an artery is clogged the life of a
community can be choked off.
