The city I live right outside of has a bad transit issue and has the worst traffic I
have seen compared to other cities that I've lived in or been in. The city lacks a
proper expressway system along with a city transit system for its size and causes
many of the main thoroughfares look like parking lots throughout much of the
day. This kind of traffic nightmare keeps people out of many parts of the city if
they do not have to be there which causes local businesses to lose money and
areas to grow. Transit is the lifeline of communities and act as proverbial arteries
that carry the life blood of that community and if an artery is clogged the life of a
community can be choked off.

I would have to agree with you on this subject. I, coming from a rural Alabama town, was literally terrified of the traffic that is on Airport Blvd. Although, through the years I have become accustomed to the traffic and have learned all of the little side roads to take to avoid the heavy traffic areas. I find your claim to hurting business relevant, because I am sure many like myself, avoid these areas, which in turn causes us to avoid a lot of small businesses.
ReplyDeleteTrying to get where you are going is always a challenge with this traffic system!!
ReplyDeleteSince I moved to this area, the city has been growing in every direction. During certain times of the day or evening there are definitely highways you don't want to be on. I agree with War Eagle regarding the side roads or alternative routes. This is great for locals but an inconvenience to those not familiar with the area.
ReplyDeleteAnd what you guys said proves that an extension to the freeway system in the Mobile area is needed and would pay for itself. Imagine being able to hit a ramp and get from downtown to the airport in just a few minutes.
