Teens are over four times more likely to get into a car accident than older drivers,
and car accidents are the leading cause of death among teens ages 15 to 20. The
increase in teen drivers are several facts in which major streets like Airport Blvd.
and Cottage Hill are having congestion and accidents. The lack of cameras that
keep people from the rage that allow for increased traffic and hazard. The city
hasn't really done much to alleviate this problem. We are getting more like those
big cities with traffic backup for miles. To be fair though teen drivers are
dangerous regardless of where they drive whether it be rural, suburban, or urban
environment, but the more traffic does not help the situation. I believe if certain
areas were to create walking, jogging, and biking paths more young people,
especially college students would actually get around on foot and bikes more

Another cause of accidents in this area is drivers using cell phones while driving.
ReplyDeleteWe should not place all the blame on teens being responsible for accidents. You have just as many adults who text and drive now than you did several years ago. Also we must not forget the elderly. They cause many accidents too because their alertness and reflexes are not as good as they used to be. I think should be a law put into place. If a person gets into more than one accident in a year or gets several tickets for any type of offense, he or she should be required to take both the written and driving portions of the Driver's License test before they can renew their license!!!!!
ReplyDeleteGood points. And not only texting or talking on phones, but drinking, eating, playing with the stereo, hollering at your kids, and you name it.
ReplyDeleteI dont believe all the accidents are teen related but I do agree that they are more apt to be in an accident due to being careless. Texting is a big thing but ipods could also cause a problem by distracting the teen to changes songs and such.
ReplyDeleteI think that there should be a law regarding the number of passengers that can ride with a teenager between the ages of say 16-18. The more riders, the more distractions in addition to the phone, music, food, and a host of others.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with Custody Lane on this issue. There are a lot more distractions in today's society. Also the city need to come up with something to ease the congestion.
